For the location in Darmstadt Germany we are looking for a Reprocessing Engineer fm Tasks She shall perform following main tasks Development and implementation of relevant operational product reprocessing chains including algorithm processors in reprocessing environment Software development and implementation of operational functional and product quality monitoring procedures for the data set generation monitoring and validation system Acquisition of relevant data from internal and external sources to support product quality monitoring in the reprocessing environment Initialisation, control and execution of operations with respect to both data set generation and evaluation activities Preparation of data sets for ingestion into the EUMETSAT Data Centre Support of the validation of products employing the quality monitoring procedures and other validation techniques as appropriate Support to the development and maintenance of operational procedures for the data set generation Compilation of technical notes on data set generation issues and relevant data set documentation including validation reports, user guides and format descriptions Support to compilation of results into presentations Attendance at scientific and technical meetings Support to international projects and coordinating organisations Essential requirements University degree in or equivalent in Meteorology or similar relevant discipline Basic knowledge in satellite meteorology andor oceanography related to climate Basic knowledge in satellite instrument calibration and intercalibration Demonstrated experience in measurement uncertainty analysis metrology andor validation of satellite products including climate data records At least five years demonstrated experience in developing scientific software using higher programming languages, such as CC, FORTRAN, and IDL inclusive of object oriented software design Demonstrated experience in using scripting languages to organise data processing, such as Python, Perl, and Shellscript on operational Unix environments Demonstrated experience in software build environments and source code control systems e.g. Subversion, Rational ClearCase, CVS Experience in the usage of EUMETSAT native and community data formats NetCDF 3 and 4, GRIB, HDF5 and BUFR Experience in large data volume processing in operational processing environments Demonstrated experience in active participation in international projects Desirable requirements Expertise in inversion methods for the retrieval of geophysical parameters Demonstrable experience in designing, developing, implementing and maintaining database management systems such as MySQL or others Experience in development of web applications using GWT serverclient Framework, Java, JavaScript, HTML and CSS Expertise in formalised software testing such as unit and regression testing Other Information Travel may be required for contributions made to international projects

As a result, two opportunities have arisen to join the busy Data Processing Systems and Applications Competence Area to provide us with technical support to design and develop new processing systems used for climate activities as well as to reprocess our significant amount of climate data. Your responsibilities will include defining and managing requirements for climate processing and reprocessing systems, identifying and delivering the evolving needs of users. Leading the engineering and procurement activities, you will be pivotal in the implementation of these systems. You will be involved in testing and rollout. Additionally you will support operations and management in defining longterm plans to harmonise data processing systems across all EUMETSAT satellite systems.
