ispace Japan is seeking an experienced propulsion engineer to support the mechanical design of the propulsion pipework. ispace is a leading microrobotics Japanese company with a subsidiary in the United States and Europe. ispaces Hakuto rover won the Google XPRIZE mobility milestone award. ispaces lunar lander is its next step towards prospecting for, mining and utilizing lunar resources to expand human presence in space. The ideal candidate will have experience of propulsion physical layout definition including pipework accommodation and component. They should have a strong experience in CAD software, be experienced at performing trade studies and be capable of overseeing build activities. The candidate should also be able to perform preliminary stress analysis to aid in quick assessment of propulsion support structure. This position is based in Tokyo. Key Responsibilities Actively participate in the physical definition of the propulsion system Design and analyse component support brackets Select and analyse tubing support structure Perform trade off studies to evaluate routing options Perform preliminary stress analysis on pipework Assess manufacturability of design Support interface with pipework manufacturer and AIT Lead propulsion manufacturing reviews Basic Qualifications Bachelor or masters degree in Aerospace Engineering, or equivalent Five or more years of industrial experience using CAD software Experience with spacecraft bracket design and stress analysis Knowledge of propulsion system layout constrains and limitations Strong spoken and written English with experience interacting with external entities Proficiency in the understanding of technical drawings Preferred Experience Ten or more years of experience in the spacecraft propulsion physical design and stress analysis Experience working on space projects, preferably in the field of spacecraft propulsion Familiarity with pipework standoff selection, propulsion component bracket design and pipework Familiar with pressure drop analysis using dedicated pressure drop software Familiar with build verification procedures for spacecraft propulsion system Experienced coordinating an external manufacturing team Experience with Solidworks Ability to read Xrays and conclude on acceptability of welds Moving to Japan is required
