Verizon names new Wireless chief, Mead to retire

(Telecompaper) Verizon Wireless CEO Dan Mead is taking on a new role at the operator, as executive VP and president of strategic initivatives. He will lead the carve out of Verizon's wireline acitivities being sold to Frontier Communications and report to Verizon CEO Lowell McAdam. After completing the job, he plans to retire. John Stratton will take over operational responsibility for wireless as well as the wireline business, as executive VP and president of operations. He was previously head of the consumer wireless and global enterprise business.

Verizon Wireless CEO Dan Mead Retiring

In an SEC filing , Verizon announced that Mead will transfer to the role of executive vice president and president of strategic initiatives to oversee the transfer of Verizon's wireline operations in California, Florida and Texas to Frontier Communications. After that is completed, Mead "expects to retire."

Verizon has retained its ranking as the best wireless network in the U.S. in the second half of 2014, with AT&T again taking second place, according to the latest mobile network performance report by RootMetrics. RootMetrics compiles mobile performance data from a consumer's point of view, and it covered a total of 288,165 miles conducting over 5.7 million tests across the U.S. for its latest report.
